The Art of Being Cozy

Oh boy GEEZ it's getting cold out there. Tonight I stepped into our front porch to kiss Nathan goodbye as he went to work, and all of a sudden the cold greedily grabbed onto my stocking feet. Thoughts of slippers, scarves and mittens danced through my head. It's time to break out the warm stuff. And this year I think I am going to get myself some snow pants or another pair of fleece lined jeans, so I don't always have to slap the life back into my pin prickly legs as they defrost from being outside.
The art of being cozy is taken seriously up here. Getting warm and cozy after being blasted with cold is one of those things you need to treat yourself to. Always having a blanket hanging around the couch is key, even if it doesn't jive with the living room decor. Slippers are a must, but ones with rubber soles are best so you don't build up that ominous static electricity. A hot cup of coffee, hot chocolate or tea will top off that cozy moment. Aleks prefers to boil Chi spices in milk on the stove to make the whole house smell like, as he says "Christmas".
And then the phone rings, you have been called into work, must go outside and your cozy bubble has been POPPED!

I woke up this morning, went to the window and stretched... it was sunny and there was green grass out in the yard. Suck it. :-P

Yea, snowmobiling sounds like fun. But driving to Walmart today was pretty fun too :-)

The best part about being home this year is staying inside in the morning and watching my husband walk to work! ahahah it is cold and windy and there I am all cuddled up on the couch with the boy and a blanket. Poor husband!

kara, that is funny! living in arviat makes iqaluit seems like childs play when it comes to the weather. its not nearly as cold up here as it is in
Arviat!

Aida,
You are saying Arviat is colder then Iqaluit? But you are so much more south then us! At least you get way warmer summer temperatures! LOL I have checked, I told Nathan that our next post should be the most southern community so I can get a summer!

P.S Besides Sanikiluaq, I think I would be too freaked living on that free island in the middle of nowhere water!

Okay if you want warm move to Kugluktuk!! We call it the "banana belt of Nunavut". We always seem to be ten degrees warmer than anyone else- especially Cambridge Bay. And our summers get hot hot hot! Seriously- we have days up to +28!

ok Kara, I am totally going to push for it!! 28 is tan weather for sure! Except all those bugs! I think we got like two 15 degree days this summer! Talk about a bummer!

jen, i know it's odd that we are way way down south but its colder in Arviat. I think the problem with Arviat is its so flat that we get everything which can be quite extreme sometimes when it comes to snow. but yes our summers are warm and maybe a little longer. when the northern communities were covered in snow, it was only 3 weeks later we actually get snow. the temps can really be as high as +30 for sure, and since our house faces the sun and slightly elevated, it sure nice to sit by the window with just a camisole and shorts and still get a decent tan minus those pesky bugs!

While I was visiting you, Charles, our local tubby squirrel finally polished off the birdseed in our feeder. He'd been mowing on it pretty good.

This morning I saw a Chickadee, and we've been getting regular Blue Jays.

Then I think back to the Megatron crows I saw at your place--like a black, stout bald Eagle. The kind of bird that would wait for Charles to eat the seed... then eat Charles.

Hey Jen

Yes you certainly do have a nice dog even though I am not a big fan of the canine beast. If you do come to the Remembrance Day Ceremony and take pictures I would love to have copies. You are a much better photographer than me.

Thanks
Blake
