The belly, the baby & the snowstorm.

You know how they say the camera can add 10lbs, well for the sake of my sanity, it can also "remove" 10lbs or maybe 30 (even without photoshop). This post-pregnancy weight has really been getting me down. I know that it took a year to gain and I'm going to give myself a year to take it off, but talk about a bummer man. I also don't want to do any radical diets, in fear it may deplete my milk (isn't that the best excuse ever, like I could ever go on a radical diet!). Breastfeeding so far has done absolutely nothing in terms of weight lose. Sure, I haven't been dieting, but I also haven't been over eating. Even with cutting out most treats and not eating after supper, nothing is happening. The worst part, is that evil little piece of junk in my bathroom, the scale. One day I had actually thought I lost a pound, but then I stepped back on 10 seconds later and was up a pound. I don't know what to believe, maybe it's just broken. I think the best place for that evil hunk of crapola, for my sanity and self esteem, is in 1,000 little peices after I've blown it to bits with a shotgun. How empowering! I think I might do this, stand by for that story.

Ezri and I have been playing around with the camera on my laptop. I think she might be a blogger one day. She likes to stare at herself on my computer and has little conversations with her mirror image. This is the way I've been making movies for myself to document her, but I'm finding it very limiting. You don't know how frightening it is to hold your lap top over a bath tub full of water, just so you can capture bath time (you know, so I can show it at her wedding, because I'm evil like that). This calls for a Movie making camera. Any suggestions?

This is what the weather has been like the last week, I took this photo on Mother's day. Every time I pick up the phone and talk to my family down south, it's flowers blooming this and barbecuing that. Well looks at this! I'm torn between telling them to keep it to themselves, or begging for details, so I can live the warm weather through them.

It's been even harder to get out now because of the baby. Nathan goes to work. I stay at home. I could get out to the store, but it's hard to get the baby all bundled up or even get her in my amauti by myself. If I was determined, it would happen. Really it's just that much easier to stay in my pajamas in the warm house. Though I think for my sanity, I need to get out more. Since it isn't warm here and I had this bathing suit that my mom sent, we did a dress up & pretend we're at the beach day (except I didn't dress up, that would have been silly). Why did my mom send a bathing suit to the arctic you ask? Well it's a 9 month suit, and Ezri is 4 months. She thought it would be perfect for this summer when we come down south. Unfortunately she will be unable to wear it at 9months, perhaps it would fit on of her legs by then. But for the meantime, a photo shoot gave us a good reason to try it on.

That gorgeous face says "Come on! You've been at it for hours - I need a Latte or I'll fall asleep on you!"

I understand about the getting out bit! If it wasn't for playgroup twice a week I wouldn't get out. Having the quad makes it easier (and the fact that our snow is gone!). Car seats are a bitch. I get out for a walk almost every night with Matt and the boys. Thank goodness for husbands.

Ezri looks very adorable in her swimsuit! She is such a little pudge-muffin!

Oh, and can I be evil and tell you thank I now weigh 12lbs less than when I got pregnant?

But I still have a long way to go before I have a body as great as yours! Don't worry about the baby weight :)

Too bad I can't ship you my wacky scale. It gives me one number when I stand on it, and then if I shift my weight onto my heels slightly I lose five pounds. It's weird but kind of fun. Needless to say, I have no idea what I actually weigh...

Great pictures and I hope it warms up a bit for you (or at least stops snowing!)

Hey Jen. After nine months, I was wondering the same thing about my weight. And I had no clothes that fit. But somehow after about 12.5 months, I was down to my pre-pregnancy weight. So just be patient.

And I rarely went anywhere either with my baby for the first 10 months. I didn't have a car and it wasn't easy to get out of the house - I was tired and was never very good at getting the baby in the amauti. I tried to go for walks (just me and baby) but really was not a fan of anything that had a time or schedule (like play groups... I was never on time and always wondered if nap time would go long or short). It was a bit stressful.

So then I worried that my baby wouldn't be well-socialized or get sick easily at daycare because we were pretty much hermits. But none of that happened at all. It all worked out in the end.

I totally get the whole 'easier to stay in pjamas all day' thing....the girls and I hardly leave the house by ourselves, and only once I have gone completely crazy do I try it (and then I curse myself as it takes us 20 minutes to get dressed and out the door - and that is only is Paige decides to co-operate and not undress herself as soon as I finish dressing her!) I know when I only had Paige summer was so much better because we could go for walks without a whole lot of work...i'm hoping i'll find it that way again this summer.

hehehe - Ezri's a Mac user! Yeah!!!

OK video cameras ... I would go with anything Canon - as JVC has issues with Macs - at least mine does .. although, I blame iMovie 8, Samsungs .. well.. I haven't had any luck with those, Sony Mini-DV's work very well with Macs - but not the Sony Hard Drive ones - they just don't cooperate with the Mac at all.

If I had to go off and buy a new one I would get a Canon SDHC corder that records right to SD cards.

You're so silly! You look fantastic! Throw that damn scale away...no one needs them, really! So your clothes don't fit like you want them to, just work on that, but don't worry about what the scale says! Honestly, it took me nearly 2 years to get to the weight I wanted to be at (you remember)...and then I got pregnant again, lol. Hang in there, it'll all work out! Oh, and miss Ezri looks fab in her swimsuit! : )

i make it a point to go out for a walks everyday with both of the kids, Frank goes away a lot so i do hv to be really self sufficient. I am actually an expert in loading Ben or Ava in the amauti so no issue there. I get overly excited over mail so unless its windchill -40C or the winds are more than 40km/h. we are going out!!lol

the last pic is PRICELESS!!lol

Not being the weight you want to be can be the most frustrating and self-esteem bashing thing in the world.

But I definitely agree with Christina. Screw the scale, use your clothes as a guide.

IMHO.

The scale is a cruel mistress. I'm with the others who say you should use your clothes as a guide.

I almost cried today when I got my Victoria Secret Catalog in the mail. I haven't even cracked the cover... it's the swimsuit sale, and I don't see a swimsuit in my future for at least a year. But the cover of the catalog is REALLY shiny!

At entry level, the movie function on a $200 Powershot should be good enough for your purposes. The great thing about it is size--you can take it in your pocket or purse.

I'd skip everything in the mid range, and if you wanted to blow the money, get an HD camcorder. The audio on that will also be better than anything else you can get at the consumer level.

Hey! Just found your blog from over at Finnskimo...here's another reason not to diet while you're breastfeeding -- Toxins accumulate in fat, so when your fat goes away, all the toxins re-enter your bloodstream & on their way to your kidneys they enter your breastmilk. So be round and happy! Hey, isn't that why we live in the arctic, anyway, so that we can never really show anyone our true body shape because we're always so bundled? :) haha

Seriously, though, I have fat moments all the time, and I realized that even if I don't gain or lose (totally get rid of the scale!) any weight, FEELING like I have lost weight makes my mental state so much better. And what makes me feel like I've lost weight addresses the other thing you talked about: getting out. All that effort that you expend getting dressed and bundled? Calories burnt. Pulling cute baby in the sled? POUNDS just slide off -- even if it just seems like it (and that's all that really counts, right?). Working up a sweat walking fifteen feet (because you're so bundled) just makes it feel like you've lost a gazillion pounds. I think it's totally worth the effort to get bundled and get out -- baby will throw a fit when you are getting her all in her layers, but as soon as you start pulling her in the sled, she'll be lulled and happy -- in all seasons, except in life-threatening weather. Also, you can get like a 3X coat to put over your regular coat and baby in baby carrier. Good luck!
