Tonight I thought it would be a good idea to finally tackle the cradle cap Ezri has been rocking for the past few months. I had read that it would go away on it's own, but it hasn't, so I thought I would be slightly more aggressive. I searched on the internet and found that if you put baby oil, mineral oil or Vaseline on the scalp and let it sit, it would help to lift some of the flakes and then you can just wash it off. The flakes are gently removed that way. I guess I never thought that Vaseline on hair might not be the best idea. After 3 shampoos, it's still there and gooey as ever. Nathan just took one look and said "Well I guess you better google that as well". I guess I better stop googling things, but I did it anyways and found that apparently Vaseline in kids hair is a world wide problem. A lot of mom's have suffered this problem and each one has a home remady. Nathan also has a home remady: Do nothing. And you know what, I'm not going to put any more junk into her hair and just let it work itself out.
She doesn't really seem affected at all, not at all as stressed out as mommy.

Beautiful eyes.
If this is your idea of failing, I'm not sure I want to know what you consider success. :)
What a cutie she is!!
My son had cradle cap and I don't think it goes away very fast. It's true that baby oil or mineral oil works (AND washes out easily). Then my public health nurse says to use a comb to gently lift the cradle cap. But I just used my fingers nails (is that too gross for some people to read? Probably not the mommies).
In Iqaluit
I was using my finger nails too (not gross lol), but I was worried that I was going to pick something I shouldn't that way, so I tried the vaseline, which I won't do again.
My son had bad cradle cap and I scrubbed it off after applying oil, problem was I took his hair with it so he's bald in the front. I started using Curel hand cream and it went away, not sure if it was the cream or timing but it's gone now. Only took 5.5 months.
Lala, some of Ezri's hair came off today as well and I thought I was scrubbing so gently. I have a feeling her cradle cap is going to be around a while, I should probably just leave it be like everyone told me to lol.
Jen, she is gorgeous.
That is all, I have no advice for the vaseline.
All our three kids had cradle cap when young. We never did anything about it, other than gentle shampooing and sometimes picking away the larger bits. They all grew up to have fine and enormous heads of hair, so I wouldn't worry a bit!
Look at those gorgeous baby blues!
My gosh she is so gorgeous!!
Heck, if Vaseline in a baby's hair made them as cute as Exri, then everyone would be doing it!!! Don't worry, it will eventually un-goop, just might take awhile. We used baby oil, and Hanna was greasy for a couple days...just makes for good baby stories!!!!
Ezri: Hmm... I wundr what I canz do to make mommy smile ..... oh yeah .. look cute and eatz hand :-)
Jen, i imagine our mom's did some pretty strange things to us too ... only difference is that they didn't have google to go to .. they had Dr. Spock.
On the plus side, she will have the world's softest hair!
Jaime
she is adorable!!!
Ava had cradle cap, we just left it alone and comb it out gently everyday, also keeping the area dry helps and sometimes i sprinkle bits of cornstarch on her head and it seems to help her.
Hi, missing you all. Norm is doing well, the girls are now friends, who could resist him.
Amazing pictures, as always. Love from Nana
Holy crap! Those are the cutest photos! What lovely eyes!
Stunning eyes!
One of the most fun baby showers I attended had a game that offered a prize for the worst mommy-baby-boo. LInda won first place. Her husband Bill is a GP. Margaret had cradle cap. He told her to keep the child clean and it would eventually go away. Margaret looked funny and Linda couldn't stand that! Finally she decied to take the advice given by an older acquaintance who advised making a rather obnoxious-smelling mixture and slathering it on Margarets head and leaving it "set" for two hours before washing it off. When the two hours was over, not only did the cradle cap come right off, so did every scrap of Margaret's hair. The family began attending our church when Margaret was about 15 months old and every Sunday it seemed she had a new dress with matching bonnet. We hadn't a clue that the bonnet concealed tufts of hair that grew in weird places. You-know-who became a bit more respectful of her husband's opinion. Actually, we were all rather shocked when Linda publicly confessed to this particular baby-boo.
